Applicants are asked to produce a video/film project (10 minutes or less) that demonstrates the potential of people and shows that individuals are taking steps to overcome homelessness and moving towards an independent and positive future.

The films should: John Cooper on Balcony

– document the life of an individual or group coping with homelessness

– identify and dispel stereotypes and misunderstandings society has about homelessness

Videos should be in documentary / interview format.

Depaul USA works in three cities: Philadelphia, New Orleans and Macon, GA and collaborates with organizations in Chicago. Filmmakers in these cities can contact Depaul to provide assistance in identifying potential documentary subjects.


Films chosen as part of the festival will be screened on two nights in October 2012 in Philadelphia. Film screenings will be followed by panel discussions. The winning project will receive a grand prize award of $1,500. This first place project will also be featured prominently on Depaul’s website and be included in the agency’s homeless awareness presentations. A second place prize of $500 will also be awarded.

Submission Details

Submission format: Sumbit one copy of your film on DVD and submission form. Mail DVDs to Homeless Has a Name, 5725 Sprague St, Philadelphia, PA 19138.

Submission deadline: August 1, 2012 at 5PM
